Background information about 'From the Dark'

When the godfather of heavy metal steps out of the shadows once more, you drop everything and listen. Tony Iommi has done it again — From the Dark isn't just a solo record, it's a masterclass in riff-driven storytelling from the man who literally invented the vocabulary of metal guitar. With the mighty Jorn Lande on vocal duties, this album crackles with an electricity that feels both timeless and utterly vital. Mike Exeter's production wraps everything in a thick, warm analogue hug — no sterile digital sheen here, just pure, breathing heaviness.

The opening salvo of "Over the Violent Sun" sets the tone immediately: that unmistakable Iommi down-tuning, the slow-burn menace, and then Jorn's voice — a force of nature that can shift from velvet croon to thunderous roar in a heartbeat. Tracks like "Black Times" and "Stormwatcher" remind you why this man's riffs have been the blueprint for five decades of heavy music. There's a darkness here, sure, but it's the kind that feels cathartic rather than crushing. "Beyond the Dead" lurches with a doom-laden swagger that'll have you pulling faces at your speakers, while "Death Wake" rides a groove so deep you could lose yourself in it for days. The seven-minute epic "Legacy" closes things out with the kind of grandeur that only a lifetime of shaping rock history can earn — a fitting title if there ever was one.

What makes From the Dark truly special is how effortlessly it balances classic Iommi DNA with a freshness that never feels like nostalgia-baiting. Karl Brazil's drumming is a revelation — powerful, dynamic, always serving the song. The chemistry between Iommi and Exeter as a writing team continues to deepen, creating soundscapes that feel both vast and intimate. This isn't a side project or a vanity exercise; this is the sound of a legend doing exactly what he was put on this earth to do.
