Background information about 'All the Shadows'

Cirith Ungol are back, and the sheer weight of that sentence still takes a moment to sink in. All the Shadows is the Californian doom institution's new full-length, and from the very first riff it feels like a statement of intent rather than a comeback. Tim Baker's voice remains one of the most instantly recognisable instruments in heavy metal — cracked, theatrical, endlessly dramatic — and he sounds utterly at home riding over the band's slow-burning, cathedral-sized riffs. Engineered, mixed and mastered by Armand John Anthony, who also handles guitar duties, the record has a warm, organic depth that lets every cymbal wash and bass rumble breathe.

What makes this album so satisfying is how naturally it sits beside the band's classic work without ever feeling like a museum piece. Robert Garven's drumming still swings with that strange, almost jazzy propulsion, and Jarvis Leatherby's bass locks in with a low-end throb that could shake foundations. Tracks like "This Mortal Stain" and "Turning Blind" build patiently, layering atmosphere before the hammer drops, while "Empty Tomb" and "On Broken Wings" carry genuine emotional heft beneath all that armour. Michael Whelan's cover art seals the deal — a fitting visual companion to music this grand and this strange. It is heavy metal as storytelling, as ritual, as pure devotion to the craft.
