Background information about 'Above, Below, & Through'

Cloak have always been a band that thrives in the shadows, but "Above, Below, & Through" finds them dragging those shadows into a much bigger room. Their fourth full-length and first for Metal Blade was tracked between January and April 2026, and you can hear every bit of that patience in the result. The Atlanta quartet describe it themselves as taking everything that worked on "Black Flame Eternal" and amplifying it completely, and that is not just press-release talk. The drums hit like a collapsing cathedral yet never sound plastic or triggered, the bass actually rumbles with menace underneath the riffs, and the guitar tones are all attack and focus, sharpened to a fine point.

What makes this record so gripping is the concept underneath it. Built around liminality and duality, the songs live in doorways and thresholds, in that uneasy space between one state and another. A season of change, hibernation and inspiration fed into the writing, and you can feel that restless energy in every transition, every sudden shift from a slow, suffocating crawl into a full-on blackened gallop. It is their most lush and massive-sounding work to date, and the gap between this production and their earlier albums is genuinely striking. The band sounds bigger, hungrier, and more deliberate, like they finally had the room to stretch out and used every inch of it.
