Background information about 'Above, Below, & Through'
There is a moment on "Above, Below, & Through" where CLOAK stop circling the darkness and simply dive into it, and the whole record tilts on its axis. The Atlanta outfit have always been a band of atmosphere and menace, but here they sharpen both into something genuinely cinematic — blackened, gothic, and draped in that smoky Southern dread that only a handful of acts ever get right. Guitars slither and then strike, the rhythm section locks into a hypnotic, almost ritualistic pulse, and the vocals sit somewhere between a sermon and a threat.
What makes this one stick is the songwriting. These are not just mood pieces; they are real songs with hooks buried under the ash, choruses that arrive like weather fronts and riffs that refuse to leave your skull. The production is warm and wide enough to let every detail breathe, so the quiet passages feel just as dangerous as the blasts. It is the kind of album that rewards a full, lights-off listen and then demands another one straight away.
