By 2022, Hulder had already proven she was no mere black metal revivalist, but with The Eternal Fanfare she pulled off something genuinely rare: a transitional record that stands on its own as a fully realised statement. Across five tracks and twenty-six minutes, this mini-album captures a project in the thrilling act of transformation — the sound is leaner, meaner, and far more confident than what came before, yet it never loses that raw, nocturnal mystique that made the early demos so compelling.

The opening moments of "Curse From Beyond" tell you everything you need to know. Rather than launching straight into the blizzard, Hulder lets the atmosphere breathe — synths hover like fog over dead ground, a patient, almost ceremonial build that explodes into the title track's full-throttle assault. "The Eternal Fanfare" itself is a glorious throwback to the icy majesty of early nineties Scandinavian black metal, all treble-shredding riffs and relentless blastbeats, but there's a muscularity to the low-end that feels thoroughly modern. Then comes "Sylvan Awakening" and suddenly you're somewhere else entirely: a folk-tinged guitar line with an almost Celtic lilt that catches you completely off guard before the darkness comes crashing back in. It's the kind of left turn that separates the merely competent from the genuinely inspired. "Burden of Flesh and Bone" stretches the melodic vocabulary even further, featuring a guest guitar solo that lands like a lightning strike — ambitious, yes, but utterly earned. The real masterstroke, though, is closer "A Perilous Journey": six minutes of mournful, measured grandeur where the synths finally take their rightful place as equal partners, supporting rather than leading, and the whole thing carries the weight of genuine epic without ever tipping into bombast. This is the sound of an artist testing her own limits and finding there are none.
