Background information about 'A Sultan's Ransom'

There is a certain kind of magic that only happens when a British heavy metal band from the late eighties decides it has nothing left to lose. Cloven Hoof found that magic on "A Sultan's Ransom", and hearing it again in this freshly remastered form is like stumbling onto a long-lost treasure map. The riffs come at you with the swagger of a band that grew up on Iron Maiden and Judas Priest but refused to simply copy them, twisting classic twin-guitar harmonies into something stranger, darker and far more theatrical.

What makes this record such a joy is how unapologetically it wears its ambition. The songwriting is packed with tempo shifts, dramatic intros and choruses built to be shouted back by a sweaty crowd. There is a storytelling instinct running through the whole thing, a sense of grand narrative that lifts it well above the average NWOBHM footnote. The rhythm section locks in tight, the leads soar, and the vocals carry that gritty, larger-than-life presence that made this era so beloved.

This edition lets the material breathe like never before, with Patrick W. Engel's remaster pulling detail out of the original tapes without sanding off any of the grit. The heavy cover, original artwork and insert round out a package that feels like a proper love letter to the fans who never let this band fade. Limited to 300 copies, so move fast if you want one.
