Background information about 'Never a Prophet in Your Own Land'
Cloven Hoof have been flying the flag for British steel since 1979, and "Never a Prophet in Your Own Land" proves the old warhorse still has plenty of fire in the belly. This is the tenth full-length from Cloven Hoof, and it lands with the confidence of a band who know exactly who they are. Harry "The Tyrant" Conklin is back behind the microphone, and his performance here is nothing short of world-class — a roaring, theatrical presence that lifts every single track into something bigger than the sum of its parts.
Bassist and founder Lee Payne has described this record as the most well-rounded album the band has ever made, and you can hear why. Mid-tempo crushers sit comfortably next to full-throttle speed metal, epic compositions unfold with genuine drama, and there's no shortage of straight-up heavy metal rockers to keep the fists in the air. The guitar tandem of Luke Hatton and Chris Coss is razor-sharp throughout, while Ash Baker's drumming drives the whole thing forward with real muscle. It's a varied, richly layered record that never loses sight of the riff — and that's exactly what you want from a band with this much history behind them.
