Background information about 'Never a Prophet in Your Own Land'

There is something deeply satisfying about a veteran band hitting a late-career purple patch, and "Never a Prophet in Your Own Land" is exactly that. Cloven Hoof have been flying the flag for British steel since 1979, and with Harry "The Tyrant" Conklin behind the microphone, the band sounds reborn, hungry and utterly in command. This is album number ten, and it lands with the confidence of a group that knows precisely what it is doing.

The record refuses to sit still. Mid-tempo crushers give way to full-throttle gallops, epic compositions unfold into straight-up heavy metal rockers, and Lee Payne's bass work remains the beating heart of it all. Conklin's voice is, quite simply, world-class — a soaring, theatrical instrument that lifts every chorus into the rafters. Guitarists Luke Hatton and Chris Coss trade riffs with razor-sharp precision, while Ash Baker's drumming keeps the whole machine rolling with real muscle. Where "Heathen Cross" was dark and brooding, this one leans closer to the eclectic spirit of "A Sultan's Ransom", and the result is the most balanced, richly varied set the band has ever committed to wax.

Payne himself calls it the most satisfying album they have made, and after a few spins it is hard to argue. Ten tracks, zero filler, and a band clearly enjoying a golden era.
