Switzerland, late eighties. While the rest of Europe was busy chasing the same tired thrash formulas, four guys from Zurich were quietly dismantling the rulebook and rebuilding it into something far more sinister. Coroner didn't just play metal on R.I.P. — they bent it, twisted it, and dragged it through a hall of mirrors until it came out the other side sounding like nothing else on the planet.

From the eerie, creeping opener "Intro" through the razor-sharp attack of "Reborn Through Hate" and the bone-chilling "When Angels Die," this record is a masterclass in controlled chaos. The riffs are cold, technical, almost surgical, yet they groove with an infectious, headbanging pulse. Ron Broder's drumming is a relentless machine, while Tommy Vetterli's guitar work weaves between thrash fury and progressive, almost jazz-like precision. And then there's "Nosferatu" — a track that still sends shivers down the spine decades later, its vampiric atmosphere dripping with dread. The title track "R.I.P." closes the coffin lid with five and a half minutes of pure, uncompromising intensity.

This is thrash metal pushed to its absolute limits, a record that sounds as vital and dangerous today as it did upon release. R.I.P. is essential listening for anyone who thinks they know what metal is capable of.
