Background information about 'R.I.P.'

There are albums that defined an entire scene, and then there is "R.I.P." — the record that announced, in no uncertain terms, that Coroner were playing a different game entirely. Recorded in 1987 at Music Lab in Berlin under the watchful eye of Harris Johns, this is where Zürich's avantgarde metal pioneers stopped being a promising demo act and became one of the most forward-thinking forces thrash metal has ever produced.

The moment Ron Royce stepped up to the microphone, everything changed. His vocals are anything but melodic — they're cold, almost clinical, and that's precisely the point. With Tommy T. Baron's razor-sharp riffing and Marquis Marky's impossibly tight drumming behind him, the band crafted a sound that felt less like traditional thrash and more like a machine slowly coming apart in the most beautiful way. "Reborn Through Hate" remains the undisputed centrepiece, a track so vital it still tears through their live set to this day, with none other than Celtic Frost's Tom Gabriel Fischer lending his voice to it. Then there's "Spiral Dream," resurrected from the "Death Cult" demo and given new life, plus four instrumentals that prove these guys weren't just writing songs — they were showing off, and rightfully so.

This is the ultimate audiophile edition of an eternal classic: remastered and restored by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony in February 2026, cut by SST Germany on Neumann machines for optimal quality on every level. If you've ever wanted to hear "R.I.P." the way it was always meant to sound, this is the pressing.
