Philadelphia's Crypt Sermon are back, and they're not done with us yet. Fresh off the heels of The Stygian Rose — a record that practically levitated off turntables in 2024 — the band returns with Saturnian Appendices, a B-sides EP that feels less like leftovers and more like a shadowy companion piece, a necessary coda to the journey they began last year.

The four tracks here don't just fill space; they deepen the mythology. Brooks Wilson's vocals soar and seethe with a preacher's conviction, guiding us through the fractured psyche of the narrator we first met on The Stygian Rose. "Only Ash and Dust" opens with a slow-burn grandeur that erupts into monolithic riffing — the kind that makes you grip the edge of your seat. "A Fool to Believe" carries a mournful weight, its melodies curling like incense smoke around a cathedral pillar. And then there's that cover: a transcendental reimagining of Mayhem's "De Mysteriis Doom Sathanas," which originally surfaced on a Decibel Magazine flexi-disc. Here, it's given the full Crypt Sermon treatment — epic, doom-laden, and utterly transformative. The third original track, "Lachrymose," rounds things out with a melancholic sweep that lingers long after the final note decays. This is dark heavy metal at its most commanding: grandiose without being pompous, crushing without losing its melodic soul. The tension between orthodoxy and the occult, between light and shadow, pulses through every moment.
