Background information about 'Once Was Not'
Cryptopsy returns with their fifth studio masterpiece "Once Was Not", a breathtaking display of technical death metal supremacy that showcases the Canadian legends at their most experimental and brutal. Originally released in 2005, this album marked the triumphant return of original vocalist Lord Worm, whose distinctive growls and theatrical presence elevated the band's already complex compositions to new heights of extremity.
The album pushes boundaries with intricate time signatures, blistering blast beats, and razor-sharp guitar work that weaves between moments of crushing heaviness and mind-bending technical passages. Tracks like "In The Kingdom Where Everything Dies, The Sky Is Mortal" and "The Frantic Pace Of Dying" demonstrate the band's ability to balance punishing aggression with sophisticated songwriting, while Lord Worm's cryptic lyrics add layers of dark poetry to the sonic assault.
