Background information about 'Descend'

Lhaäd dissolves into Däahl. The protagonist in reverse. Water becomes fire — and that single line tells you almost everything you need to know about "Descend", the debut that rises from the ashes of one of Belgium's most merciless outfits. Where Lhaäd dealt in tsunamis of slip-streaming, world-eating black metal, Däahl keep the same molten core but aim the flame in two directions at once: inward, into the marrow, and outward, into everything standing in the way.

Black metal remains the foundation here, and it is a foundation built to burn. The riffs don't so much arrive as collapse onto you, all serrated tremolo and dissonant architecture, while the rhythm section pushes with the kind of inexorable intent that makes a record feel less like a collection of songs and more like a single, slow-motion catastrophe. What makes "Descend" so gripping is the tension at its heart — the sense of a band deliberately dragging their own sound downward, stripping away the cathartic release in favour of something heavier, stranger, more claustrophobic. Melodies surface like heat shimmer, then get swallowed whole. Passages stretch and warp, refusing the easy payoff. It is patient, ugly in the best way, and genuinely thrilling for anyone who likes their extremity thoughtful rather than merely loud.

The production keeps the grit intact without smothering the detail, so every dissonant chord and every choked scream lands with real weight. This is music that rewards volume and repeated listening in equal measure — the kind of record that reveals a new fracture line on every pass.
