Background information about 'F.O.A.D.'
"FOAD" represents a bold chapter in the illustrious career of Darkthrone, showcasing their dedication to raw and unfiltered black metal infused with heavy metal elements. The album spans compositions written between 2005 and 2007, recorded in the band's own Necrohell II studio. It is a testament to their gritty ethos, blending aggressive riffs with a lo-fi aesthetic that recalls their early Treblinka demos. The album's production is intentionally rough, highlighting the primal energy and authenticity that fans have come to expect. Intricate songwriting by Fenriz and Nocturno Culto is on full display, complemented by guest vocals and choir arrangements that enrich the album's texture and depth.
Throughout "FOAD", Darkthrone pays homage to metal traditions and their influences, with tracks dedicated to seminal bands and figures, as well as to their enduring fanbase. The artwork and design reflect the band's underground stature, featuring an illustration by Dennis Dread and a layout by Trine Paulsen and Kim Sølve. This release solidifies Darkthrone's status as torchbearers of the underground metal scene, balancing reverence for the genre's roots with their unique creative vision.
