Background information about 'Eternal Devastation'

There are records that don't just get played — they get unleashed. "Eternal Devastation", the second full-length from German thrash titans Destruction, is exactly that kind of beast. Released in the mid-80s, it arrived at a moment when the Teutonic trio of Destruction, Kreator and Sodom were busy rewriting the rulebook on speed and aggression, and this album still stands as one of the rawest, most feral statements of that whole movement.

From the very first snare crack, you know you're in for a beating. Schmier's unmistakable, venomous rasp rides over riff after riff of pure, unrelenting thrash — the kind of guitar work that feels like it's trying to saw straight through the speakers. There's a savage, almost punk-like urgency to the whole thing, a band playing like their lives depend on it, and that energy has lost absolutely none of its bite all these decades later. The title track alone is a masterclass in controlled chaos, lurching and lunging with a momentum that feels genuinely dangerous.

And now this 2025 reissue through High Roller Records gives the record the treatment it always deserved. Mastered for vinyl by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony, it keeps the original 1986 sound intact — no glossy modern polish, no tinkering with what made it so lethal in the first place. This is the sound of a genre being forged in real time, pressed onto thick 180g wax and housed in a heavyweight cover that does the music justice.
