Background information about 'Sovereigns'

Enthroned have never been a band to rest on their laurels, and with Sovereigns they once again prove why they remain one of the most vital forces in Black Metal. This 2024 offering is a beast of an album — raw, atmospheric, and yet surprisingly dynamic. From the very first notes of the orchestral intro Anteloquium, you know you're in for something special. The production is crisp without losing the grit that makes this genre so compelling, and the riffs? Absolutely devastating.

What strikes you most about Sovereigns is its sense of balance. Tracks like Of Feathers And Flames and Lamp Of Invisible Lights showcase the band's ability to weave melodic passages into their signature blast-beaten assault without ever sounding forced. The title track Of Shrines And Sovereigns is a particular highlight, building from a menacing crawl into a full-blown inferno. Vocalist Nornagest delivers his trademark venomous shrieks with conviction, while the rhythm section feels tighter than ever. This is Black Metal that respects its roots while pushing forward — dark, majestic, and utterly unapologetic.
