Background information about 'Still'
Finsterforst have spent over two decades carving their distinctive path through extreme metal's dense forest, and "Still" stands as their most compelling statement yet. This isn't just another atmospheric black metal release – it's a masterclass in what happens when German precision meets unbridled creative ambition. The band's self-coined "Black Forest Metal" has never sounded more potent, weaving together crushing black metal foundations with folk-inspired melodies, post-metal expansiveness, and cinematic grandeur that feels both intimate and monumental.
"Still" showcases Finsterforst at their most adventurous, stretching across 78 minutes of music that refuses to be confined by genre expectations. From the haunting "Obduktion" through the melancholic beauty of "Stille Nacht", each track builds upon layers of crushing heaviness and vast atmospheric landscapes. The album's bold choices – including covers of Immortal's "Beyond the North Waves" and Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. II" – demonstrate a band confident enough to make any song their own while maintaining their core identity.
