Background information about 'Adrift'
There are records that feel less like albums and more like drifting through a half-remembered dream, and Florist's Adrift is exactly that — a gorgeous, hazy meditation on distance, memory, and the strange beauty of being untethered. The band, led by Emily Sprague, has always had a knack for turning quiet, intimate moments into something vast and cinematic, and on this record they stretch that gift even further.
Across the LP, delicate acoustic guitars intertwine with field recordings, gentle synth washes, and Sprague's ethereal, almost whispered vocals. It's the kind of music that makes you want to sit still and let the world blur around you. There's a profound sense of longing here, but not the painful kind — more like the peaceful ache of watching the sun set over water, knowing you can't hold onto it. Tracks flow into one another seamlessly, creating a continuous atmosphere that's both comforting and quietly devastating.
Adrift feels like a deep breath after a long day, a reminder that sometimes the best thing to do is let go and see where the current takes you. It's a record for late nights, early mornings, and all the quiet spaces in between.
