There is a moment on "Anthem Of The Peaceful Army" when you realize you are not listening to a nostalgia act but to four kids from Frankenmuth, Michigan, who genuinely believe rock 'n' roll can still move mountains. Greta Van Fleet open with "Age Of Man", a slow-burning invocation built on acoustic strumming and a voice that climbs straight for the rafters, and from there the record never really lets you sit still. "When The Curtain Falls" struts in on a riff so greasy and confident you can practically smell the stage lights, while "Lover, Leaver (Taker, Believer)" stretches out into a sweaty, hypnotic groove that begs to be played loud in a cramped club.

What makes this debut so much fun is the sheer joy radiating off every take. Josh Kiszka wails like he has something to prove, Jake Kiszka peels off licks with vintage warmth, and the rhythm section of Sam and Danny keeps everything grounded enough that the flights of fancy actually land. "You're The One" and "The New Day" show a softer, almost pastoral side, while "Mountain Of The Sun" and the closing title track swell into the kind of anthemic singalongs that were supposed to be extinct. Is it reverent toward the past? Absolutely. But it is also played with such wide-eyed conviction that you forgive every borrowed move and just crank it up.
