Some albums just hit you right in the gut from the very first note. Impending Doom's Signum of Hate is exactly that kind of record. Originally released in 1998, this second full-length from the Thuringian crew marked a serious leap forward – not just sonically, but in terms of sheer aggression and songwriting maturity.

Where their debut still played around with atmospheric keyboards and a more sprawling approach, Signum of Hate strips things back to the bone. The keys are almost entirely gone, replaced by lightning-fast, Thrash-infused guitar riffs that cut like broken glass. Tracks like \u201cDemon-(Mon)Archy\u201d and \u201cLand Of Burning Coffins\u201d waste no time – they\u2019re concise, vicious, and impossibly catchy in that way only underground German metal from the 90s could pull off. The band\u2019s sound defies easy categorization, blending Black, Death, and Thrash Metal into something uniquely theirs. And yes, they even throw in a cover of Celtic Frost's \u201cDethroned Emperor\u201d and Morbid Angel\u2019s \u201cChapel Of Ghouls\u201d \u2013 and absolutely nail both.

This reissue by Darkness Shall Rise Productions is the definitive edition. Mastered and restored by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony, the sound has been given a new lease on life. Packed with never-before-seen photos and a fresh interview with all band members, this is the version fans have been waiting a quarter century for.
