Three years after their debut "Bloodmoon" turned heads across the traditional heavy metal underground, Kerrigan are back with a record that feels like it was forged in some forgotten Freiburg rehearsal room in 1985 and polished for a new century. "Wayfarer" is the sound of a band completely in command of their craft, and it's an absolute joy to hear.
Guitarist and vocalist Jonas Weber calls the album "dreamy, melancholic and pretty versatile," and he's not wrong. There's a warmth and wanderlust here that runs through tracks like "The Ice Witch" and "Blood and Steel" — songs that are instantly accessible, yet layered with enough detail to reward repeat listens. This is the kind of heavy metal that never gets boring, the kind where every riff earns its place. Bruno Schotten sums it up best: "maybe it's indeed time for a modern heavy metal classic." From the galloping title track to the genuinely uplifting "Fighter", "Wayfarer" refuses to be pinned down. Apart from orthodox speed metal, the band throws everything into the pot, and the result is one of the most varied and confident German metal records in recent memory.
