Background information about 'Wayfarer'

Three years after their much-acclaimed debut "Bloodmoon", Kerrigan return with "Wayfarer" and prove that the German traditional heavy metal scene has rarely sounded this alive. The Freiburg four-piece, formed back in 2019, has always understood what made the eighties so untouchable: songs that hit you immediately, yet keep revealing new details with every spin. "Wayfarer" is exactly that record, a collection of tracks that feel both familiar and thrillingly fresh, as if someone finally remembered how to write a modern heavy metal classic without sounding like a museum piece.

Guitarist and singer Jonas Weber calls the album "dreamy, melancholic and pretty versatile," and he's not wrong. From the galloping opener "Torchbearer" to the moody, atmospheric "The Ice Witch", the band swings effortlessly between orthodox speed metal and something far more adventurous. "Blood And Steel" is the kind of anthem that should be ringing out across festival fields for years to come, while "Fighter" brings a genuinely uplifting, almost joyful energy that's rare in a genre so often stuck in the dark. Guitarist Bruno Schotten sums it up best: songs that are accessible, but packed with so many interesting details they never get boring.

What makes Kerrigan so exciting is that they've taken the blueprint of the NWOBHM and the German steel tradition and made it feel urgent again. With session drummer Jonathan Döring and bassist Jakob Zeblin now locked in as full-time members, the band sounds tighter and more confident than ever. "Wayfarer" isn't just a worthy successor to "Bloodmoon"; it's the sound of a young band coming into their own and reaching for something timeless.
