Norwegian black metal legends Mayhem return with "Atavistic Black Disorder / Kommando", a devastating EP that showcases both their original songwriting prowess and their ability to reinterpret classic tracks through their distinctive lens of chaos. The release opens with three brand new compositions that demonstrate the band's continued evolution while maintaining their signature sound of pure malevolence. "Voces Ab Alta" sets an ominous tone, followed by the ritualistic "Black Glass Communion" and the apocalyptic "Everlasting Dying Flame", each track delivering the raw intensity that has made Mayhem one of black metal's most influential forces.

The B-side transforms into a cover album featuring Mayhem's interpretations of punk and hardcore classics, including tracks originally by Dead Kennedys, Discharge, and Rudimentary Peni. These covers aren't mere tributes but complete reimaginings that filter punk aggression through Mayhem's black metal brutality, creating something entirely new yet respectful to the source material. The juxtaposition between their original compositions and these punk covers creates a fascinating dialogue about extremity in music across different genres.
