Background information about 'Life Eternal'
Norwegian black metal legends Mayhem deliver another crushing testament to their uncompromising vision with "Life Eternal", a collection that showcases the band's most devastating and atmospheric compositions. This release captures the raw, unfiltered essence of what made Mayhem the godfathers of the second wave of black metal, featuring tracks that have become essential listening for anyone seeking to understand the genre's dark evolution. The haunting melodies of "Freezing Moon" intertwine with the relentless brutality of "Cursed In Eternity", creating an atmosphere that's both suffocating and strangely beautiful.
The production maintains that signature lo-fi aesthetic that Mayhem perfected, allowing each tremolo-picked riff and blast beat to cut through the mix with surgical precision. "Funeral Fog" stands as a particular highlight, demonstrating the band's ability to craft compositions that are simultaneously primitive and sophisticated. The title track "Life Eternal" serves as a perfect closer, its extended runtime allowing the band to explore darker territories while maintaining their trademark intensity throughout.
