Background information about 'Realities'

What is reality? It's the kind of question that keeps philosophers up at night — and now Belgian dark electro duo Mildreda have turned it into a monumental double album. With "Realities", mastermind Jan Dewulf — who actually holds a degree in philosophy — delivers a conceptual work that's as intellectually stimulating as it is sonically captivating. While their previous outing "Blue-Devilled" took cues from Sartre's vision of hell, this time the amused whisper of Albert Camus guides the narrative.

What strikes you first about "Realities" is how damn emotional it gets. Dark electro isn't exactly known for warmth, but Mildreda injects colours and feelings into the cold machinery that rarely grace this genre. The Canadian EBM pulse is still there, that distinct Belgian sonic flavour too, but the duo pushes far beyond traditional boundaries. Guest appearances from Suicide Commando's Johan Van Roy and Constantin "Breñal" Warter of Calva Y Nada add extra depth to an already rich tapestry. This is their most ambitious, most innovative, and dare I say it — most accessible record yet. A philosophical trip you can dance to.
