Background information about 'De Stroom'
Four songs, forty-one minutes, one river. "De Stroom" is Oerheks at their most patient and most panoramic, a record that lets the water decide the tempo. The inspiration is geography as much as music: the Demer valley, the Hageland region, Cagghenvinna, ancient seas, rain, floods, and the slow, stubborn meandering of a stream that keeps rewriting its own map. You can hear that in the way these pieces unfold, never rushing, always shifting the ground underfoot.
The guitars have that wide-open, windblown quality that suits a landscape better than a stage, and the vocals sit somewhere between narration and invocation, like someone reading old flood records aloud. What impresses most is the restraint. Oerheks understand that a saga about water does not need to shout; it needs to swell, recede, and return. Long stretches build with almost geological patience, then break into passages that feel genuinely vast. It is atmospheric music with real weight behind it, the kind of record that rewards a full, undistracted listen with headphones and a window.
There is something deeply satisfying about an album that trusts its own scale. "De Stroom" does exactly that, and it earns every one of its forty-one minutes.
