OERHEKS · De Stroom | CD

jewel case CD, 12-page booklet. Limited to 200 copies.

Background information about 'De Stroom'

Four songs, forty-one minutes, and one relentless current running through all of them. Oerheks builds "De Stroom" around water — ancient seas, rain, floods, the shifting meanders of the Demer, the long haul from source to deluge. That's a big canvas, and the band fills it without ever sounding like they're reaching for grandeur. The riffs breathe, the tempos ebb and pull back, and the whole thing moves like a river that knows exactly where it's going, even when the banks keep changing.

What makes "De Stroom" stick is the patience of it. Nothing here is rushed. Tracks unfold in long arcs, layering cold, spacious textures over riffs that feel carved out of the landscape of Cagghenvinna and the Hageland region. There's weight, but it's the weight of weather rather than blunt force — a slow gathering of pressure, then release. The production leaves room for every detail: the low end rolls, the guitars shimmer and grind by turns, and the vocals sit deep enough in the mix to feel like part of the terrain. It's the kind of record that rewards a full, undistracted listen on headphones, ideally with the lights low.

And then there's the packaging: a jewel case CD with a 12-page booklet, limited to 200 copies. For anyone who still likes holding the thing while the music plays, that's a nice touch. This is a record about movement and erosion, and it wears its ambition lightly — which is exactly why it works.
