Some records don't just get reissued — they get dragged back out of the grave, still dripping. "Extreme Deformity" is exactly that kind of artifact, and this Hammerheart pressing finally gives the Austrian sickos' 1989 EP the full-length treatment it always deserved. Side A opens with the original four tracks that made Pungent Stench a name whispered in the same breath as the earliest gore-drenched death metal, then throws in a genuine curiosity: "Rip You Without Care" in its lost version, tracked in the band's rehearsal room by Intestinal Infestation, with Martin Schirenc on guitar and a vocal pile-up featuring Lee Dorrian, Mick Harris and Phil Vane alongside Jacek Perkowski and Shane Embury. That's a lineup that reads like a fever dream of late-eighties extreme music, and it sounds just as unhinged as you'd hope.

Flip it over and you get a full live set from the Arena in Vienna, recorded on 9 December 1988 — six tracks of raw, sweaty, gloriously under-produced carnage. "In The Vault," "Festered Offals," "Hypnos," "Pulsating Protoplasma" — the titles alone tell you where this is headed. The guitars are filthy, the drums are thunderous, and the whole thing has that irreplaceable live-album energy where you can practically smell the beer and the sweat. It's not polished, it's not pretty, and that's precisely the point.
