Background information about 'Weight Of Light'

Man, when Serpentcult dropped "Weight Of Light" back in 2008, they absolutely nailed that crushing doom sound that Rise Above Records was becoming legendary for. This Finnish quartet wasn't messing around - they delivered eight tracks of pure, unadulterated heaviness that feels like being slowly crushed under the weight of ancient mountains. The album opens with "New World Order" and immediately sets the tone with its glacial pace and monumentally heavy riffs, while tracks like "Awaken The Kraken" show they can pack a punch even in shorter bursts.

What really sets this album apart is how Serpentcult manages to balance traditional doom elements with their own dark atmospheric touches. The title track "Weight Of Light" perfectly encapsulates their approach - it's both crushing and hypnotic, drawing you into their world of ritualistic heaviness. The eight-minute closer "Serpentcult" is an absolute monster that showcases everything great about this band, building from ominous beginnings to earth-shaking climaxes. This is doom metal that doesn't just worship at the altar of heaviness - it becomes the altar itself.
