Slayer don't owe anyone a damn thing, and Repentless is the sound of a band that knows it. This is the album that had to happen — the first without Jeff Hanneman, the first with Gary Holt fully in the fold, and the first where you can feel the weight of everything that came before pressing down on every single riff. And yet, somehow, it doesn't buckle. It lunges.

From the eerie, cinematic opener "Delusions of Saviour" straight into the title track, you're grabbed by the throat and thrown headfirst into a maelstrom of breakneck riffs, pummeling drums, and Tom Araya's unmistakable bark. "Repentless" the song is a manifesto — a defiant, middle-finger-waving statement of intent. Kerry King's songwriting is absolutely ferocious here. Tracks like "Take Control" and "Vices" hit with that classic Slayer velocity, all razor-wire guitar work and Paul Bostaph's surgical precision behind the kit. But there's depth here too — "When the Stillness Comes" slows things down into a creeping, doom-laden nightmare that shows the band can crush you at any tempo. "Piano Wire" might just be one of the most underrated tracks in their entire catalog, a twisting, snarling beast of a song with a riff that burrows into your skull. The production is crisp and modern without sanding off the raw edges — this still sounds dangerous. The bonus DVD is a monster in its own right, capturing a full live set that spans the classics: "Angel of Death", "Raining Blood", "South of Heaven", "War Ensemble" — the hits just keep coming, and the band sounds absolutely rabid. The "Making of Repentless" documentary is the cherry on top, giving you a fly-on-the-wall look at the creation of this beast.
