Released in 1990, this is the band's fifth studio album and the final one with the classic lineup featuring the late, great Jeff Hanneman. It's the moment where Slayer's signature speed and aggression met a newfound sense of atmosphere and twisted melody, creating something far more sinister and enduring. From the moment the title track kicks in with that iconic, slow-burning riff, you know you're in for something special. The chugging, almost hypnotic groove of the opening is a masterclass in tension-building, before the band unleashes hell.

But make no mistake — this isn't a band going soft. Tracks like "War Ensemble" and "Born Of Fire" hit with the same relentless fury as anything on Reign In Blood. The difference is the dynamics. "Dead Skin Mask" creeps and crawls with a disturbing, almost waltz-like rhythm before exploding into sheer terror, while "Skeletons Of Society" closes the album with a crushing, apocalyptic weight. Tom Araya's vocals have never sounded more venomous, and the rhythm section of Dave Lombardo and Paul Bostaph (wait — it's Lombardo here, of course) is absolutely inhuman. This is thrash metal at its most intelligent, most brutal, and most enduring. A masterpiece that still sounds fresh, dangerous, and utterly essential over three decades later.
