Background information about 'Aeons Untold'

Some debuts announce themselves with a whisper. Slithering Decay chose the other route entirely — they crawled out of the muck and dragged everything down with them. "Aeons Untold" is the kind of record that smells of damp cellars, rusted chains and old tape hiss, and it wears that filth like a badge of honour. This is death metal that remembers where it came from: the gut-level riff worship of the early nineties, the cavernous production that lets every note rot just a little before it hits you, and a rhythm section that lurches rather than gallops, always threatening to collapse into the abyss without ever quite doing so.

What makes it stick, though, is the songwriting. There is real craft buried under all that grime. The band knows exactly when to slow to a doom-laden crawl and when to slam the accelerator, and they use that dynamic like a weapon. The vocals sit deep in the mix, a guttural rasp that feels less like a performance and more like something escaping from a sealed tomb. Solos are sparse but vicious, and the whole thing has a wonderful sense of dread running through it — the feeling that something ancient is waking up just out of frame.

It is not polished, and it should not be. "Aeons Untold" is a statement of intent from a band who clearly spent years studying the classics before deciding to twist them into something nastier. If you like your extreme metal ugly, patient and genuinely unsettling, this one will keep you coming back. It is a debut that sounds like a band already comfortable in its own skin — and that is a rare and beautiful thing.
