Background information about 'Silent Feeble Cries'
There is something deeply unsettling about the way The Great Sea let a record breathe. "Silent Feeble Cries" does not arrive with a battering ram; it seeps in, gathers weight, and then refuses to let go. The band pushes its aggressive side further than ever before, but the real story here is the growing presence of melancholy, threaded through the riffs and the spaces between them like fog over cold water. It is the sound of a group that has found its own language and is now confident enough to stretch it.
Much of the vocal cast remains familiar, with frontman A. once again flanked by Azathoth (Gràb, ex-Dark Fortress) and Phil "sG" Jonas (Crone, ex-Secrets Of The Moon). But the arrival of Pelle Åhman (ex-In Solitude) on the opening track "Thirteen Moons" tilts the whole thing into stranger, more immersive territory, a voice that feels like it is coming from somewhere far below the surface. Lyrically the album keeps circling the tangled bond between humanity and nature, embracing ecstatic madness as readily as decay, corruption and decline. It is heavy, it is beautiful, and it never once takes the easy way out.
