Background information about 'Silent Feeble Cries'
With "Silent Feeble Cries", The Great Sea open the next chapter, subtly yet decisively expanding upon their established musical foundation. Aggressive moods are pushed further than before, while moments of melancholy increasingly find their way into the songwriting. Much of the vocal cast remains unchanged, with lead vocalist A. once again joined by guest vocalists Azathoth (Gràb, ex-Dark Fortress) and Phil "sG" Jonas (Crone, ex-Secrets Of The Moon). Yet the arrival of new forces - most notably Pelle Åhman (ex-In Solitude), whose voice can be heard on the opening track "Thirteen Moons" - allows the band to explore entirely new and intensely immersive atmospheres.
Lyrically, the album once again ventures into the complex relationship between humanity and nature. Its songs embrace both ecstatic madness and the forces of decay, corruption and decline. There is a restless pull at work here, a band that refuses to sit still on its own sound, and you can hear that hunger in every turn of the record. The guitar work shifts between cold, cutting riffs and wide, mournful passages, while the rhythm section keeps everything grounded just enough to let the atmosphere breathe. It is heavy, it is bleak, and it is strangely beautiful in the way only the best of this genre manages to be. A record that rewards repeated listens and keeps revealing new corners.
