About the album

Thurnin's third album, "Harmr," emerges from a deep sense of grief that only love can birth. The title is an Old Norse word translating effectively to 'sorrow.' The loss of loved ones is universally burdensome, and doubly so when it involves multiple companions. This explains why minor chords and a reduced tempo dominate the tracks of "Harmr," especially in comparison to its predecessor, "Útiseta" (2023). On the latter, Thurnin mastermind Jurre Timmer explored the numinous act of 'sitting outside,' an Icelandic tradition as a medium for communion with nature. Yet, as Thurnin's third full-length delves into a darker, more melancholic realm, there remain undercurrents of hope for redemption, loving reminiscences, and moments of beauty — a musical tapestry Timmer first wove on his debut album "Menhir" (2021). As "Menhir" emerged from Timmer's home studio in Soest near Amersfoort in the Netherlands, it swiftly became a YouTube sensation exceeding millions of views. As winter wanes and spring promises to bathe the northern hemisphere in warmth and light, Thurnin opens another portal into their dream realm. Born from sorrow, "Harmr" extends gentle musical visions that heal with solace and compassion.
