Waldgeflüster returns with their most ambitious work yet on "Knochengesänge", a haunting journey through the darker corners of atmospheric black metal. The German collective, led by the enigmatic Winterherz, has crafted an album that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant. The record showcases an impressive array of guest musicians including Austin Lunn (Panopticon) who provides guest vocals on "Krähenpsalme" and Alboin contributing to "Lethe – Der Fluch des Schaffenden". What truly sets this release apart is the massive choir featuring over 30 contributors, creating an almost ritualistic atmosphere that permeates throughout the album's runtime.
The production work by Markus Stock brings out every nuance of the band's evolved sound, while the visual presentation featuring photography by Bekah Lunn and illustrations by Austin Lunn creates a cohesive artistic statement. The inclusion of a traditional piece "The Parting Glass" alongside original compositions shows the band's willingness to explore beyond conventional boundaries. With additional leads by Philipp van Berlekomm on "Der kleinste König und sein Architekt", the album demonstrates a collaborative spirit that elevates the entire project beyond typical black metal territories.
