Background information about 'Likferd (Re-Release)'
Windir's 'Likferd' stands as a monumental epitaph in the annals of Black and Viking Metal. Released in 2003, this album is a testament to the band's unique ability to blend harsh black metal elements with traditional Norwegian folk influences. The intricate guitar work and atmospheric keyboard compositions create a haunting backdrop that is both melancholic and ferocious. With tracks like "Resurrection Of The Wild," Windir serves up an audial feast that captivates from the first note, immersing listeners in a world of epic sagas and Nordic mythology.
The visceral intensity of 'Likferd' is matched by its lyrical depth, exploring themes of life, death, and rebirth. Valfar's growling vocals cut through the dense instrumentation like a chilling wind across fjords, while tracks such as "Fagning" and "Blodssvik" showcase the band's prowess in crafting melodies that linger long after the final chord fades. This album not only solidified Windir's place in metal history but also marked an era-defining moment for the genre.
