Swedish crust is a strange beast: it never really dies, it just sharpens its teeth. Wolfbrigade have been at this for decades now, and "Howl From Underground" sounds like a band that still treats every riff as a reason to keep going. The guitars are filthy and razor-thin at the same time, the rhythm section drives like a runaway truck on a gravel road, and somewhere above it all sits that hoarse, desperate bark that has always been this band's signature. Nothing here feels polite. Nothing here feels reheated either.
What makes this record land is the balance. There is d-beat fury, sure, but there is also melody buried under the grime — the kind of minor-key guitar lines that stick in your head long after the last chord has bled out. Tracks shift gears without warning, dropping from full-throttle gallop into a grim, stomping mid-tempo that feels like a threat rather than a breakdown. It is punk in spirit, metal in weight, and completely unbothered by whatever the genre police are arguing about this week. Play it loud, play it once, and you will want to play it again.
