Howl From Underground — even the title sounds like something clawing its way up out of the dirt, and Wolfbrigade have never been a band to soften a blow. The Swedish crew have spent decades sharpening that particular blade: the d-beat gallop, the crust-thick guitars, the sense that every song is sprinting downhill with the brakes cut. This record keeps that engine roaring while adding a grim, almost mournful melodic streak that cuts through the chaos like a searchlight through smoke.
What hits hardest is the balance. The riffs are filthy and fast, but there is real songwriting underneath the filth — hooks buried in the wreckage, twin-guitar harmonies that sting, a rhythm section that never once lets the pressure drop. The vocals stay raw and ragged, more bark than sermon, which is exactly how this stuff should sound. Nothing here feels like a nostalgia exercise; it feels like a band still furious about the same things, just better at aiming.
Play it loud, play it once, then play it again — it is the kind of record that rewards the second pass, when the melodies start crawling out from under the distortion. Wolfbrigade remain one of the most reliable wrecking crews in heavy music, and this is them at full gallop.
