Background information about 'Black Soul Choir'

Wolves Like Us return with Black Soul Choir, a record that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. This Norwegian-Swedish crew have crafted an album that walks the razor's edge between crushing sludge, raw punk energy, and moments of surprising melody. From the opening salvo of Days Of Ignorance to the sprawling, near-eight-minute closer Thanatos Wins Again, this is a band firing on all cylinders. There's a palpable anger here, but it's channeled into something focused and powerful rather than chaotic. Tracks like Three Poisons and I Don't Need To Be Forgiven hit with a visceral punch, while When Will We Ever Sleep and We Were Blood show a knack for weaving hooks into the heaviness without losing any of the grit. The production is raw but clear, letting every riff land with the weight it deserves. This isn't polished metal for the masses - it's dirty, honest, and born from the underground.

The album's title is a nod to the 16 Horsepower song, and that influence of dark, brooding Americana seeps through the cracks of the sludge. There's a worn-in, leather-and-denim feel to these eleven tracks, like a band that's spent years on the road perfecting their craft. The rhythm section is absolutely punishing, locking into grooves that swing between pummeling and hypnotic. Guitar work ranges from buzzsaw riffage to moments of clean, almost mournful twang. Vocalist Lars Strömberg delivers his lines with a desperate snarl that fits the material perfectly. This is an album about struggle, about fighting through the darkness, and it sounds like exactly that.
