Background information about 'Clearing The Path To Ascend'
Clearing The Path To Ascend is the sound of a band staring straight into the void and refusing to blink. YOB had already built a reputation as one of the heaviest, most spiritually charged acts in doom, but here they pushed everything further: longer songs, deeper riffs, and a sense of catharsis that feels earned rather than borrowed. Mike Scheidt's guitar tone is enormous, a slow-moving landslide of fuzz and feedback, while the rhythm section locks into hypnotic grooves that stretch out like rituals. The album opens with "In Our Blood" and never rushes a single second — it breathes, it swells, it crushes.
What makes this record special is how much light it finds in the darkness. There are moments of genuine beauty buried under the distortion, and when the band finally lets go on the closing epic "Marrow", it lands like a revelation. This is doom metal as a form of meditation, patience rewarded with pure emotional release. Four tracks, no filler, all of them essential.
