Background information about 'Universe'
Back in 1989, when thrash metal was reaching its creative peak, Canadian outfit D.B.C. unleashed "Universe" – a progressive thrash masterpiece that defied every expectation and convention of the genre. This isn't your typical Bay Area thrash assault; instead, it's a cosmic journey through crushing riffs and philosophical depths that showcases the band's unique vision. The album opens with "The Genesis Explosion" and immediately sets the tone for something extraordinary, blending the raw aggression you'd expect from thrash with surprisingly sophisticated songwriting and conceptual themes about humanity's place in the cosmos.
What makes "Universe" truly special is how D.B.C. managed to create something that feels both brutally heavy and intellectually stimulating. Tracks like "Heliosphere" and "Exit the Giants" demonstrate the band's ability to craft memorable hooks while maintaining that essential thrash metal bite. The remastered sound brings new life to these 1989 recordings, allowing every crushing riff and thunderous drum fill to hit with maximum impact. This is essential listening for anyone who thinks they know everything about 80s thrash metal.
