Background information about 'Chaos A.D.'
There are albums that simply change the game, and Sepultura's Chaos A.D. is one of them. When this beast dropped in 1993, the Brazilian titans had already carved their name into extreme metal with Arise and Beneath the Remains. But this... this was something else entirely. Sepultura didn't just evolve — they detonated. Drawing from the crushing groove of hardcore, the tribal rhythms of their native Brazil, and the sheer ferocity of death metal, they crafted a record that feels like a punch in the gut from the very first second.
From the opening war cry of "Refuse/Resist" to the devastating closer "Clenched Fist," Chaos A.D. is relentless. Max Cavalera's roar has never sounded more venomous, while Igor Cavalera's drumming — especially on tracks like "Territory" and the instrumental masterpiece "Kaiowas" — is pure rhythmic warfare. The production by Andy Wallace gives the album a massive, almost suffocating weight that still sounds monstrous today. It's angry, it's political, it's tribal, and it's absolutely essential. A landmark album that bridged the gap between underground extremity and mainstream metal without compromising an inch of its integrity.
