Background information about 'Punishment For Decadence'

There are records that simply refuse to age, and "Punishment For Decadence" is one of them. Coroner's second album, recorded at Sky Trak Studio in Berlin in 1988, is the moment these Swiss avantgarde metal pioneers stopped showing off and started writing actual songs. Guitarist Tommy T. Baron put it best when he said the band focused more on the depth of the music rather than just showcasing their technical skills. And you hear it in every razor-sharp riff, every off-kilter time change, every moment where Ron Royce's venomous bass and Marquis Marky's impossibly tight drumming lock into something genuinely dangerous.

The crown jewel here is "Masked Jackal", still a fan favorite to this day, and for good reason. It's the kind of track that burrows into your skull and refuses to leave, the one that got a music video back when MTV actually mattered. But the whole record is stacked: the eerie "Intro", the relentless "Absorbed", the haunting "Skeleton On Your Shoulder", and a frankly unhinged cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze" that has to be heard to be believed. This is thrash metal pulling itself apart and reassembling into something smarter, stranger and far more dangerous than the competition ever dared.

This edition has been remastered and restored by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony in February 2026, with cutting by SST Germany on Neumann machines. In short, this is the ultimate audiophile pressing of an eternal classic, and the packaging is an absolute treasure chest for collectors.
