Back in 1999, when the metal underground was a very different beast, Drautran from Kiel, Germany, self-released Unter dem Banner der Nordwinde — a record that would go on to become a cult landmark of stormy, frostbitten Nordic Metal. Then silence. Years of deceptive calm passed, and just when you thought the storm had passed, the skies tore open again. In autumn 2007, Drautran returned with Throne of the Depths, a tempestuous hurricane of an album that doesn't just knock on your door — it kicks it off its hinges.

What we have here is elemental black metal of the highest order. Raw, atmospheric, and utterly uncompromising. The guitars howl like gale-force winds, the drums pound like crashing waves against a rocky shore, and the vocals — rasping, desperate, buried deep in the mix — sound like they're being screamed from the bottom of some abyssal ocean trench.
