When Gaerea emerged from pandemic limbo, this masked Portuguese collective brought a vision of black metal guided not by ancient myths but by raw emotional purging. The world quickly embraced their approach, following them from Hellfest's main stages to sold-out tours across China and the United States. But with "Coma", Gaerea transcend their strictly black metal origins, crafting something far more expansive and emotionally devastating.

Once again produced by trusted collaborator Miguel Tereso, their fourth full-length takes their signature sound in two seemingly contradictory directions - moments of breathtaking beauty that only amplify the crushing blows that follow. "World Ablaze" ignites this new era with conventional song structures wrapped around fiery tremolo picking, while "Hope Shatters" completely upends expectations by collapsing under blistering heaviness before hanging like a swaying chandelier, only to be smashed by hammering bass and concussive blast beats. The unnamed vocalist's cry of "I've known faces within me" echoes through somber guitar solos before "Unknown" snaps into razor-sharp hooks, proving that Gaerea have truly surfaced at the top of extreme metal.
