Philadelphia's Heavy Temple returns with their sophomore full-length "Garden Of Heathens", a stunning evolution from their 2021 debut "Lupi Amoris". Where their first album charged forward like a roaring mastodon, this new offering showcases a more diverse and sophisticated approach without sacrificing an ounce of heaviness. Recorded at Animal Farm Studio with John Forrestal, the album boasts a rich, warm organic sound that's simultaneously crisp and crystalline. The band's expanded touring experience across the US and Europe clearly shows in their songwriting, with the creative process becoming more collaborative than ever before.
Thematically, "Garden Of Heathens" finds frontwoman High Priestess Nighthawk delivering her most personal lyrics yet, exploring things that aren't real - from the American Dream to relationships. Beneath the shiny surface lurk anxiety, betrayal and doubt, creating a compelling narrative tension. While Nighthawk's powerful vocals provide gravitational pull, Heavy Temple remains fundamentally a riff-first band, expanding their sonic palette to encompass influences ranging from Baroness to The Beatles, Black Sabbath to Fu Manchu. The result is an album that sheds new light on heavy rock, desert rock, psychedelia and doom metal.
