Background information about 'Dark Waters Stir'
When Norwegian black metal pioneers Isvind unleashed their debut full-length back in 1996, they carved out a distinctive niche in Oslo's burgeoning extreme metal scene. "Dark Waters Stir" stands as a testament to the raw, uncompromising spirit of mid-90s black metal, capturing that perfect storm of atmospheric bleakness and ferocious intensity that defined the era. The album weaves together tremolo-picked melodies with haunting keyboard passages, creating soundscapes that feel both ancient and otherworldly.
This expanded edition includes the complete original album plus the rare tracks from their self-titled 7" EP, offering the definitive Isvind experience. The band's approach to black metal feels distinctly Norwegian – there's that characteristic blend of melodic sophistication and brutal aggression, wrapped in production that maintains the genre's essential rawness while allowing every atmospheric detail to breathe. Each track builds upon themes of darkness and nature, delivered with the kind of conviction that made the Norwegian scene legendary.
