Background information about 'Dark Waters Stir'
When Norwegian black metal titans Isvind unleashed "Dark Waters Stir" back in 1996, they carved out a haunting testament to the genre's most primal essence. This expanded edition brings together the full-length debut alongside tracks from their self-titled 7" EP, creating a comprehensive document of Oslo's underground black metal scene at its most ferocious. The album crashes through your speakers with the force of Nordic winter storms, each track building atmospheric tension through tremolo-picked melodies that dance between melodic beauty and crushing brutality.
The production maintains that raw, unpolished edge that defined mid-90s Norwegian black metal, allowing every blast beat and shrieking vocal to cut through the mix with surgical precision. "Dark Waters Stir" doesn't just reference the title – it embodies the churning chaos of dark waters themselves, with compositions that ebb and flow between moments of contemplative darkness and explosive fury. This reissue serves as both historical document and sonic assault, proving that Isvind's contribution to the second wave of black metal remains as potent today as it was nearly three decades ago.
