Background information about 'Starless'

German black metal outfit Ketzer delivers a crushing two-track assault with "Starless", a brief but devastating 7" EP that showcases the band's evolution from their earlier thrash-influenced sound into darker, more atmospheric territories. The title track "Starless" opens with haunting melodies before exploding into a maelstrom of tremolo-picked riffs and blast beats, while maintaining an almost melancholic undertone that sets it apart from typical black metal fare. The production strikes that perfect balance between rawness and clarity, allowing every instrument to breathe while preserving the genre's essential grimness.

The B-side track "Count To Ten" continues this journey into bleaker sonic landscapes, featuring more experimental elements and showcasing the band's willingness to push boundaries within the black metal framework. Ketzer's approach here feels both nostalgic and forward-thinking, incorporating death metal influences that add considerable weight to their already formidable sound. This EP serves as an excellent entry point for newcomers while offering longtime fans a glimpse into the band's continued artistic growth and refinement.
